How to Backup and Restore Android Text Messages

If there are some important text messages on your Android phone and don’t want to lose them, you can backup them from time to time. After you backup text messages, you can restore them to your device later. Below are two ways to backup Android SMS/MMS with restoring solutions accordingly.

Method 1: Transfer Text Messages from Phone to Memory Card and Vice Versa

Method 2: Backup and Restore Android SMS/MMS with Mobile Transfer

Method 1: Transfer Text Messages from Phone to Memory Card and Vice Versa

If you have an SD memory card on your phone, you can export text messages from the Android phone memory to the SD card and then insert it to your new phone. Here is how:

Step 1: On your Android phone, tap Menu & Messages
Step 2: Select a message you want to transfer then tap Options or Menu button.

Step 3: Tap Save to SD card and the SMS/MMS will be transferred to your memory card.

If you want to restore the text messages to the smartphone, you just need to insert the SD card to the device.

Note: This method could get a bit tricky. By default, some versions of the Android operating system does not allow for message import/export. In most cases, we'll have to use an external app for help.
